Coming Events

The 2010 season of Sunday Events in the Park starts Sunday 2nd May, with the ever popular Bluebell Walks in the woods, see below.

Every Sunday upto 26th September, the Friends will be serving refreshments at the Lakeside Centre, from 2 - 4 p.m.

The Children's Project and Active Clubs Experience (ACE) are joining us every Sunday, providing fun children's activities.

Most Sundays, there are also other events or activities laid on as well, see below for the list. A leaflet detailing these events can be picked up at the Lakeside Centre when it is open. We will try and post any changes to the schedule here as soon as we can.

The Friends are always in need of more willing hands. Please get in touch if you would like to help out in any way possible.

  • 1-Aug-2010 (Sun) - Yorkshire Day with Tingley Brass Band - 2 p.m.
    Also, as part of "Leeds Love Parks Week", we have Middleton Park "Access for All" day for those who have difficulty getting down to the park (or back up out the park!).
    Ring the Friends by 25th July, on 01924 824488, if you need a lift.

  • 8-Aug-2010 (Sun) - Yorkshire Brass Quintet - 2 p.m.
    Sponsored by local councillors.

  • 11-Aug-2010 (Wed) - Kids Go Wild! Bushcraft 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
    Learn how to build a shelter, purify water for drinking, discover wild food and how to light a fire using a flint and steel. Meet at the Lakeside Centre at 1 p.m.

  • 15-Aug-2010 (Sun) - Willow Weaving with Ray and Sam - 2 p.m.
    Come and watch an expert at work and make something to takeaway.
    See pictures from their 2009 visit.

  • 22-Aug-2010 (Sun) - Circus Skills Workshop with Professor Fiddlesticks 2 p.m.
    By popular request, Professor Fiddlesticks returns to entertain and instruct children of all ages in circus skills.

  • 29-Aug-2010 (sun) - Kids Day - practice your circus skills, visit the Fun Bus - 2 p.m.
    Refreshments served to keep the adults amused!

    Train Link: FoMP members will meet the 1 p.m. Middleton Railway Train from Moor Road at the Park Halt - see the Middleton Railway site for train details. We will lead a guided walk through Middleton woods upto the Lakeside Centre where Refreshments can be had. The walk to the Lakeside Centre will take about 30-40 minutes, depending on the route, and is uphill. The return, downhill, walk back to the Park Halt takes about 15 minutes by the direct route.

  • 5-Sep-2010 (Sun) - History Walk - 1 p.m.
    Come and share the history of the park. This is a 2 hour walk and stout footware is recommended.

  • 12-Sep-2010 (Sun) - 1:30 to 4 p.m.

    FoMP 2010 Craft, Flower, and Produce Show

    Last year's show was a huge success. Besides the fruit & veg, craft and art work show, there is the Funbus for the kids, a live band, lots of events and stalls - it promises to be a fun afternoon out in the park for all the family.

    Hilary Benn M.P. will present the winning certificates and Trophies, as well as the prizes to the winners of Middleton in Bloom and Belle Isle in Bloom competitions.

  • 7-Jul-2009 (Tue) - Richard III - outdoor theatre show by Oddsocks

    7p.m. at Lakeside Centre.
    The rain held off! We had had lots of rain during the day, but it held off for the evening performance. Those hardy souls not put off by the earlier rain, enjoyed a wonderful performance. Here are few pictures taken by Ivor Dykes...

  • 24-Jul-2008 (Thu) - Mining Book Launch
    7.00pm to 8.30pm at Middleton Library, St George's Centre, St George's Road, Middleton, Leeds, LS10 4UZ.
    The launch event included a short presentation by Martin Roe, the project Archaeologist, and was followed by refreshments and a book signing. Launched to coincide with National Archaeology Week 2008 (July 12th-20th).
    The launch was reported on the Middleton Today website and in the Yorkshire Evening Post.
    Coal Mining in Middleton Park: An Archaeological Investigation by the Middleton Park Community Archaeological Project details the finding of the lottery-funded, community project, and demonstrates that Middleton Park is one of the best preserved and most important historic coal-mining landscapes in West Yorkshire.
